This article covers the ways in which META tags can be edited using the eStyleCentral.com admin panel. META tags are containers embedded in the HTML code of a web page and are not visible when viewing the page unless its source code is viewed. META tags are primarily used to feed keywords and descriptions to search engines to communicate what the content of the web page is about. The eStyleCentral system automatically creates most META tags on web sites but it is possible to customize them.

1) Global META Tags

Global META tags will be included on every page of your web site unless they are overridden by a more specific META tag from 2,3 and 4 below. Details on editing global META tags in General Settings can be found here: http://www.efcmailserver.com/wiki/index.php/HTML_Inserts

3) Product Page META Tags

The eSC system handles creation of default keyword and description META tags for products. However, adding your own unique descriptions and tags has an SEO benefit as it sets your site apart from all the others that use the default vendor provided descriptions. On the edit product page there are several fields you can customize:

Full Description: It is best to leave this one as default as it will be overwritten by product updates. Product Keywords: This is a system generated field and will be overwritten by product updates.

Extra Description: This is the best area to add your own unique descriptions. These will NOT be overwritten by updates and will be added to the default description the customer sees. There is generally an SEO benefit to adding descriptions here.

Product URL Override: This can be used to change the URL of the product, it generally not recommended to edit this field.

Product Title Override: This will change the title of the product that is shown to the customer. This override field is generally not needed.

Product HTML Title Override: This will change the title that is shown in the browser tab. There is generally an SEO benefit to making these unique.

Product META Keywords Override: The eSC system provides default keywords, but adding your own unique keywords will have an SEO benefit. These are not seen by the customer but are fed to search engines.

Default Behavior:

Keywords: [eSC Supplied Designer/Collection Name] [Style Number] [Short Description] [Product Keywords]

Description: [eSC Supplied Designer/Collection Name] [Style Number] [Long Description]

Behavior with override content:
